what domain to block to stop steam client updating?
I want some level of control over the client (it doesn't operate on the download settings for updating games and can't be configured) since it only tells you about client updates after downloading them now. It seems like preventing this might take something like temporarily putting the steam update server(s) in my system's hosts file, so does anyone know what the URL(s) is/are?

If Steam wants to update but can't, it won't work. You must use a current client version to be able to use Steam.

I know we all know that :D problem is Steam got slower since the last 3 updates , and now i noticed another update :steamsad: the client is getting to big , problem is it gets overweighted, to heavvy, its not as fast as when i joined a long time ago .
:steamfacepalm:
An optional client with all extras like chats and other 'extra' should be made for the people who want that, the main client should be fast, bug free and a lightweight a client that:

acces the games, updates, installs , the basic things needed all the eye candy and other extras make the client slooooooooow :steamsad:

Havent replied here but it is getting really out of hand, at least 3 to 4 times a day an update ( maybe more but i check 1 to 3 times a day ( morning midday and evening ) maybe it wants to update all the time ?
And now there is a larger update havent read the the update text cause the scroll button is small meaning loads of text are there to read .... ( small scrollbars loads of info very large or no scroll bar no text to show)

Anyway .... the many updates doesnt seem to actual improve things reagading speeds , reliability and stability, access is slow , buttons pressed have a 'lag' its like you press a button and the count: 1 2 3 4 5 and the action is carried out and then it spins like crazy and takes a while before the next page or links ot whatever is shown or carried out.
Press button and voila the action takes you to where you want.... there should be NO lag.
Gog has an optional client dont know if how it works i dont use it :steamhappy:

It doesn't update every time the Steam pop up says "verifying installation." That is just checking Steam upon login.

The Steam client for non-beta users has had only 3 updates since Aug 28th.

There will never be a setting to prevent the Steam client from updating.

I've clarified some of my post. If you don't understand please say what is confusing you.

They'll allow the previous version to be used while an update is being rolled out, at least. That's all the time I want.

so checking every time while logging in is .... 'verifying' things ? nothing more or less ?
okay guess i have to get used to it :D

why would anyone block the client ? its needed , if some people are concerned about things then look out for win 10 :steammocking: thats lot of telemetry and other nasty spying they do, unless you can afford the expensive win 10 if possible, maybe its only for companies / and real business ?

Anyway win 10 is 129 euros or maybe even 10 bucks more (139), quite expensive compared to the old home premium version packs of win 7 :steamhappy:

I only want to decide when it's convenient for me to update the Steam client, the same as I can for games. Nothing more.

Ah i see, sounds very logical, i update the games when i want to, i dont enable the auto update games , i set it to update when i launch the game, and since i buy only games i can run without client once they are installed ( i uninstall the games that need client to run the game ( on /offline) and make a note to myself not to buy games from that developer\publisher.
I like buying games lots of them but noooooooo client please to run a game cause thats :steamfacepalm:

Anyway i joined steam because they have casual games, i get all the other games and some AAA games from GOG (drm free)
