Can't make my account appear online?

So I've been having this problem for a few days now, and I didn't really care until I tried to play a game with my friend.
My account isn't in offline more, but it's set to offline, like how you can change your account to appear.
I can't change it to invisible, or busy, or online at all, when I go to click it it just does literally nothing at all.
I've tried reinstalling several times.
I've tried doing all sorts of things with the settings, disabling offline mode, changing my server destination.
I've turned off all of my firewalls and anti-viruses.
I've tried uninstalling, rebooting and then reinstalling.
I've tried turning the offline mode on then off using Regedit.

Frankly, I'm getting desperate, and just want to know if anyone else has had this problem, or knows how to fix it.

I moved from windows to linux where the problem doesn't occur at all. It appears however the bug is not being fixed on windows when logged in successfully on linux since the bug appeared. Therefor it's very unlikely this is related to a steam-db based status/flag but a client-based problem.

Since a fresh reinstall of steam on windows did not fix it, one may try a registry cleaner after removing steam. Would assume this could fix it.

it seem to work when you in big picture mode tho you wont get the same option you will be showed as online :)

I fixed the problem after a month, go in a game, pewds shift + ťah, click view friends, there should be error and under it sign in, click it and youre done.

That in-game shift+tab friend list suggestion fixed my problem! Thanks man!

I solved this by moving steam from one drive to another. Like from C:// to D://. If you have multiple drives try this, it is a pain but it worked for me.

I had this problem last night, were under friends it wouldn't let me select online and was constantly offline. I tried allow steam through firewall and AVG but didn't work. WHAT did work was going to steam, then offline mode, it restarted then I went back to steam and went on online mode. Restarted then I was back as online.

necro thread, and hell no , look like you had no ISP and reboot into MS or no network senario and reboot back then network was back. i did not say AVG could be part of the issue with steam or a game.

but his thread is so old 2018 , that anything could have happend in the past , ISP or its partner or steam server, could have backup gear kicked in. ( steam and isp normal dont have gear down over 24hour, you need to live in remote area ( hermit i think here redundant path is not possible from a isp point of view. )
or own house net is the cause.

problem with this old post , is no one reply or was skilled enough to even reply on it , and maybe someone did know but dont read here. or bother with other people problem.
let me expln this better , some was network educate long ago , but that dont mean they are here in help & tips. or was just a gamer.

I just fixed this issue myself and for me at least I had to uninstall steam and re-download it into a new drive.

No problem. During theses days I've been reading other similar threads, some people solved it by opting into the Steam beta client; or opting out if you already have it enabled

I did the same by switching to beta and it worked for me.

I've got the problem right now.
Strangely enough, in game, I'm listed as online (via checking the Friends Chat area), but on my main steam application it says I'm offline.
Strange stuff.

ok ok so in the top left there is steam view friends games and help im going to assume your guys problem is friends and there is tick next to offline???? the way i got it to fix is click on steam (top left then click on go offline twice witch brought me back online for steam friends
