Having a controller plugged in turns Overlay into Big picture?

Hello, for some reason having an xbox controller plugged into my PC forces my shift-tab steam overlay in games (even when im using keyboard and mouse) to have a big picture style interface.

Steam never used to do this, is there a way to stop it? I've had a controller plugged in for years to play various games that need one, yet it's suddenly affecting the steam UI so much since the update.... How do i stop this?

Ok I finally found it in settings, can disable big picture UI from taking over. nvm.
