Can't buy game as a gift for my friend

I'm gonna be concise. I wanna buy Endless Space 2 for my friend now that it's on sale, but because Steam is such a hot diarrhea mess, I can't do that simply 'cause he's played it during the free weekend. And since the sale ends right when the free period ends... yeah.

Basically, I can't buy the game for him, and since Steam's completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "update" to the gifting system people can no longer just buy games to keep 'em in their inventory, I can't do it that way either.

So what can I do to buy the game for my friend?

Blame the people who where selling gifts which is against the steam subscriber agreement.

I don't use the gifting system myself but as far as I know you should be able to purchase the gift right away and setup a schedule when the gift gets automatically send to the recipient.

Gift the game.

Pretty obvious you don't buy gifts pal, 'cause if someone has played a game during a free weekend, Steam erronously acts like the guy/gal owns the damn game. And it pisses me off...

...they REALLY need to improve that ♥♥♥♥♥♥-ass excuse for a "system".
