Short answer no.
Long answer hell no.
So think twice before entertaining that whole idea.
Should you? No
Would it get removed again? Probably and the restriction might be longer. Continuing to break the rules could result in a community ban.
In summary... use common sense.
And also thanks to everyone who responded.
The lulz are real.
But seeing that i cant... well now it's dead.
If this was to harass someone then I have no problems, but if I am unsafe in the chat, then we have a much bigger concern. Yes I know the EU doesn't agree with me but I make my feelings on this known, I value the safety of free communication. I don't risk losing contact with friends because of something subjective like "hurtful/offensive/mean/etc"
There is no free speech here or most places on the internet. This is a private forum owned by Valve. Post on a website you own or follow the rules on the sites you do post on.
Your opinion on what's offensive doesn't matter.
Using Nazi symbols is illegal in some countries. Illegal. It's not subjective.
if it was "safe" to be a nazi and to use their signs, and it was freedom of speech,
you would live in a nazi occupied country (world).
And trust me, the borders of what you could do or not would not only be
higher, but also not obeying them would bring pain upon you and people around you.
No, this an open market by which anyone is allowed to join and has several consumer rights. this also runs in America and I am an America, it is not illegal for me, nor will it ever be. And yes, my opinion doesn't matter because it's an opinion, That's why I find this so important. Because if I can be banned on the opinions of a single report and a moderator, than valve is following inconsistent rules that are applied purely on whether or a not a mod simple -feels- that I did wrong, rather than anything even reasonable provable. And speaking of laws, one of my rights is a right to appeal if valve claims I broken any kind of rules or terms. Explain to me how I'm suppose to do that on something that is defined on the feelings of two people? Am I suppose to prove the reader of what I post didn't really feel whatever they felt to make the report? Or am I suppose to prove the moderator's personal interpretation of something is wrong?
Edit: Also, the OP said they got banned for something "being in," their profile. It might be unintentional passive voice, but if that was intentional then the OP is claiming they got banned for the thing just being there, not that they ever posted it.
Ignoring for a moment the IDEAL, not law, of Freedom of Speech, I do have a right to demand fair and equal treatment, to not be constantly risking losing the things I own/lease, contact with my friends, and any other things due to me by this service. I cannot ever have faith treatment is the rules are nothing more the arbitrary opinions of moderators, and ignore all manner of intent and context. And if you try to argue intent and context mean nothing, then you need to go learn a little something about law and order, because intent is by far one of the most important aspects of the rule of law, both in personal and open rule. And guess, what, the owner does not get to change this. So long as this forum is open to all and not an invitation only, they owe me the same rights as anyone else.
Now look, if valve has to answer to EU law and start banning people from EU countries, fine. But I am not in the EU, and my rights include not being denied service under unreasonable grounds. And yes "I don't like what you said or how you said it." is not reasonable grounds for a forum.
You do NOT have freedom of speech on private property.
Try going to a store and waving a Nazi flag around.
You get kicked out.
Imagine steam was your house.
Still everyone can do what they want if it was your house?
