Upgrading it means replacing the motherboard adn buying DDR4 RAM as well.
And if what you want to run is something that only gets cheaper in the future like single player games, you dont even have to upgrade for that. Better wait until there is a big jump in hardware.
Cpu upgrades are only necessary if you know this one doesnt work for you. Not because something is "aging".
A major jump in hardware? This CPU is 6 years old. A modern i5 or R5 has nearly double the processing power.
Let's say it differently then so you can understand. The CPU is the components in this system which holds everything back a more powerful GPU will not make a huge difference due to this 6 year old CPU. Read what I said.. "That CPU is most certainly aging and should be your next upgrade.".
If you want to play anything modern this one "doesnt work for you".. This thing is 6+ years old and is knowing for being straight up terrible, a modern $50 Pentium G dual core with HT will outperform it.
You were clearly just looking for something to complain about, congratulations you found it.
To make sure he knows how to find the answer to his question.
I'd say it's worth upgrading to Ryzen or i5/i7 right now.
Take a look at the AMD Ryzen 2000 series and Intel Core 8000 series.

You do know you also need to buy a new b450 or x470 motherboard and DDR4 RAM right?
Your current motherboard has the AM3 socket, these new Ryzen CPUs have AM4.
