Why are my Steam downloads are using 100% of cpu usage?
Every time I download a game off steam no matter how big or small, my cpu usage reaches almost 100%. When its NOT downloading the cpu usage is normal percentages with 10-30%. My cpu in task manager for steam.exe says anywhere from 28 to 40. Its SOLELY this program

1) I have used avast and malwarebytes to check for adware, malware, viruses, etc. Nothing found
2) I unclicked the interface option in settings "enable directwrite for improved font smoothign and kerneling
3) I have cleaned up my actual pc of dust and make sure my thermal paste was good
4) I have the latest gpu drivers.
I have tried EVERYTHING I could and its still taking up heavy cpu usage. This has NEVER happened to me. I have never upgraded my pc at all, no updates, etc. Please help!

Because Steam downloads compressed files. Once a part is downloaded Steam begins unpacking, installing and organising it whilst the rest continues to Download. If it didn't it would take longer because you'd need it all download and then need it all uncompressed and installed.

This way Steam is using the Cpu and drive to their full potential. No point using minimal CPu and drive through the download only to max them later.

ok thanks man, but when I was this implemented because this has NEVER happened to me before.
I suspect it could be due to games are being compressed more and more to speed the DL process.

I could be wrong. Sure others will be happy to correct me if I am.
For anyone who end up here after some google research like myself. My cpu never was at 100% usage while downloading games until recently. The reason for that is because I used to have very limited bandwidth, and now that my download speed is 50 times faster I guess that my processor has to work 50 times as much.

I don't know if games are more compressed but you might have more bandwidth than you hardware can handle.
