[HELP} Can't stop Steam from running on startup.
I've gone into Settings>Interface and unchecked the box which reads "Run Steam When My Computer Starts" but it still runs.

I have also checked the computer's startup settings and Steam doesn't appear in that list so I'm really not sure what to do next.

Hey Soggysocks - I have the same and it bugs me - but since it has not crashed on me in the last 5 - 6 years - I figured that the few seconds ( 5 - 15) it takes is worth it. I know that does not solve the issue - but I hope it helps you cope with it. Good luck - I'll keep my eyes on this and see what others say.
Go to Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools then click on services scroll through and look for steam and put them as manual.

You can also try to modify the setting in the Windows registry. The autostart checkbox is directly tied to a registry key — simply deleting it is all the Steam client does when said checkbox is unchecked.

Open start menu then in the search box type regedit then hit enter. When it comes up click the arrows by the names below to find the entry.

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete the Steam key

Hey, I'm having this problem too. I've followed Off the Grid's suggestions, but there are no instances of Steam in the areas he/she mentioned.

This is mind boggling. How can it be so hard to not run an application on start up?

Thanks in advance!
