Download Speed Cap?
Are there speed caps on downloads? I just downloaded Deus Ex, and I couldn't get anything higher than 11.9, but was consistently at 11.8-11.9 mbps. I also just recently started using Ethernet, and feel like it should be higher than 11.9mbps on 200mb wifi. Even if it's in megabits, I should be able to go up to at least 20 megabytes per second.

Idk if there is hard cap, but the speed depends on current server load. Also, try speedtest or similar site to check your actual download speed for a distant server

The download speed is set to unlimited by default. go check settings out in the steam client setting and go to the download tab.

There is a theoretical speedcap, when the Steam CDN Servers can't saturate a connection.
This does not happen as they can easily saturate several Gigabit connections simultaneously.

You're not downloading data directly from point a (steam) to b (your computer). Any of the routers your traffic is flowing through inbetween can affect your internet speed. Not to mention the 'top speed' on your internet package is not a guaranteed speed and can be magnitudes lower than what you actually are sitting at, at any given time based on factors like your ISP's infastructure, who you share a line with etc etc.

Simply put, there are a lot of factors that can effect the speed of your internet, but it's not related to a 'cap' in this instance and I can personally say that I've gone well above 20MB/s.

I am having the same issue. Literally the exact same speeds that you are talking about. I consistently hover at 11.8 - 11.9. It is driving me nuts, and I cant seem to find a fix anywhere.
