Can the chat stop automatically scrolling up every time i change chat box?

This is becoming a massive gripe with the new client - whenever i open a chat window or even just change window between two chats, once i change back the chat will be 50+ lines up in the chat log. Can i disable this? Can i make the chat automatically scroll down by default so that i dont have to scroll down to read my newest messages?

Just hit the big subscribe button to the right.

Op. Use scrollwheel on mouse or make sure mouse cursor does leave scroll bar when dragging. If it does left click otherwise when you get close to the scrollbar it snapto where cursor is.

I think Peabrain lost teh point ot eh thread. The issue is the cahts automatically scroll up; is not related to a mosue issue, but with the new friend's ui for the chats.

I mean, you suggest to scrolldown; but there is a button on the cahts wich lets automatically sends you to the bottom fo the chat. But the issue is, having to press that buton EVERY TIME you switch tabs; even if you NEVER scrolled up.

Exactly. Especially bothersome when you are in-game and just want to pop in to respond to a message for 2 seconds.

It's not so bad in games that require mouse and keyboard, but it's a huge bother when using a gamepad.

I have the same problem sadly.
It wasn't like this when the new chat layout came out. It's been like this for about 3-4 days now :(
Maybe Valve messed up something in a client update.
