Can't install steam because "Steam is already running".
I was installing steam on a (mostly) fresh version of Windows 10. The downloaded setup file ran fine, but the actual installer complained that steam is already running. Turns out that the actual installer file is named "steam.exe" so it was detecting itself and thinking that actual steam was running ...
If you run into this, just change the name of the installer so it doesn't trip on its own processes.

Got this as well. Having the name of the installation as
Steam.exe
trips the installation process. Renamed to
SteamSetup.exe
fixes this.

Hi! It is better to create you own thread. Add more details if you can... is this a new issue? for example, What you have tried so far, your system (Linux or WIndows?) etc.

Hello, I cannot download steam onto my pc, I tried and it wouldn't run and when I tried to delete the files it kept saying steam is running when its not and wouldn't let me delete the files, even after I deleted the steam app from my p0c it kept saying its running so any other attempts at reinstalling didn't work. I went through the apps and everything to check if steam was open anywhere and it wasn't. please help

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
