Resolution problem
So, I have a problem which started half a year ago. If I have launched a game from Steam I cant change my resolution from NVIDIA Control Panel. I have to restart my pc everytime I want to change my resolution. It is really annoying since some games im playing stretched and some not so i would get black bars if i didnt change the resolution..

and yes i have tried format still same problem

Why don't you change the resolution in-game?

okay so if i have my resolution set to 2560x1440 and lets say i wanna play rust in 1440x1080 i will get black bars, so i have to change it from control panel to 1440x1080 and i can play with that resolution. but it just doesnt change, it like starts changing i get black screen and then it goes back to the old resolution.

Try a 16:9 resolution in game. 2560 x 1440 is 16:9. 1440 x 1080 isn't.

Can't be bothered to list them all so have a look here
https://pacoup.com/2011/06/12/list-of-true-169-resolutions/

You want the true 16:9 resolutions that are in green on that page.

yes but as i said i wanna play some games 4:3 streched.

I saw that. But thats the problem when playing some stretch and others not stretched. Nvidia Control panel doesn't let you set a stretched/full aspect ratio on a per game basis. So you'll need to stick with constant messing around. So much easier to just pick a resolution that matches your monitor, 16:9. I know stretching has some bonuses like enlarging hitboxes but it also has downsides like limiting you visual field.

EDIT: TBH May not need to mess around as much nowadays. It's been some time since I tried 4;3 stretched, partly because of the same messing around.

i mean i could change my resolution perfectly before and my friends can change their resolution too whenever they want and i couldnt even imagine playing csgo or rust 16:9 but thanks for your time

okay i just found something is blocking from changing it. if i sign out of my computer(it force closes all the programs) and then i sign back in i can change my resolution again but i have no idea what is blocking it

Keku I just tried it on CSGO. Havent played in since Panorama but set Nvidia Control panel scaling to GPU and set it to fullscreen

Loaded CSGO > Video Settings

Set to 4:3
Resolution changed to 1920:1440
Apply

Streched no bars first time. Easier than when I tried it last years ago. Changed Nvidia Control panel Scaling back to Aspect Ratio and I get black bars. I don't have 1440x1080 available when in CSGO. Have you tried other 4:3 resolutions? I know 1600 x 1200 and 1280 x 1024 also worked fine, for me any way.

Did GPU driver or windows update recently? could try a windows rollback/system restore to before the issue. Or run DDU in safe mode and reinstall GPU drivers again.

if im signing out it closes all the apps and then says closing 1 app and its called Portrait Display SDK Helper for 64 bits OS, maybe thats the problem but what is that program
Supafly Nov 6, 2018 @ 7:12am
Not sure if thats a Nvidia helper or not. I'd expect NV or Nvidia in the name if it was. Check in Nvidia control panel and that in the adjust desktop section it is set to perform scaling on GPU and not on the Display.

and the problem only seems to happen with steam games, Runescape and Destiny 2 are the only games which i have that are not from steam and if i launch them and close them i can later change my resolution when i want

Only thing different in your screenshot is I don't have that override for scaling checked like you do. No idea what to suggest.

Is odd that it's only Steam games. Could try asking in the Hardware section.
