Can't log in - too many login attempts - help please
Hi There,

I forgot my password a few times and got locked out of my steam account. Since then, I changed my pasword so I know it now. I get this message:

"There have been too many login failures from your network in a short time period. Please wait and try again later."

It's been 4+ hours since I was locked out. I saw a few places that you should be able to log in after 1 hour. For my last two login attempts, I waited 1:05hr and 1:15hr respectively before trying to login in with no luck. This is quite frustrating. Any advice?

I'm curious, how many times did you fail to log in with the wrong password for this to happen?

Cycling your router should be sufficient.

I think maybe 5 tries or so. I will try to 'cycle the router.'

I power cycled both my router and modem (my PC is directly connected to cable internet but also has a router). It didnt work. :sadface

I tried 'ipconfig /renew' to change my IP address that didnt work either. This is kinda crazy... At the very least they should indicate how long I have to wait, since (i assume) a failed log in attempt resets the lock out time...

Yeah, same exact issue as you mate. Changed my Steam password a few times because someone from Russia kept trying to get in.

Now I can't access Steam on my phone.

bump. still locked out.

If anyone from Steam is reading this. I'm logged into the Steam client, but cant log in via my browser. I also purchased something from steam that requires me to log in via my browser to access it. There is no where in 'Steam Support' where I seem to be able to get help with this problem.

What if you just go to the steam website and try to log in without using that store thing?

That nvidia thing might just be broken or something...

I have tried both just logging in through the Steam website and through the store purchase I made, I get the same answer from both: 'try again later'. Alas, it's 8 hours later and still cant get in. I've also tried clearing my browser cache to no avail.

Next time you wait a long while and want to try again, don't use the link thing. Just go to https://steamcommunity.com and see if you can log in.

You could also try it from your phone without wifi, should get you a new IP.

Thanks Forcen - by accessing my account through my phone with wifi off, I was able to access the content I had purchased! I still cant access my Steam account through my browser but I'll try what you suggested when some more time has past.

Still, that other guy had the same thing happen and he also changed the password over and over. I assume you think you entered the correct password and then changed it assuming you forgot it right?

That giveaway thing might be breaking steam somehow.

How many password changes did you do?

I only did one password change for... quite a while, I literally just forgot this time since I changed it so much a while back. Managed to log into my Steam account on the client easily enough.

And I managed to log into my mobile using my mobile data instead of my wifi.

Might try switching browses to see if that'll fix it for in-browser log in.

Edit: Yeah it's related to the router and network. So if you want to log in in-browser you need to do it on another network.

So this issue only caused you to change passwords once? And you didn't try logging in to the client before this started and you changed password?

I think it's related to that giveaway.

Don't try to fix it, now you dont need to log in using the browser anyway right?

Sorry, I meant I only changed it once recently. I had to change my password multiple times due to hackers getting to the point where Steam Guard was the only thing stopping them.

And I don't need to, I was just trying to sync my Steam with paradox's so I can eventually use a specifc mod XD
