I changed my Steam nickname but people still recognize me by the nickname they've given me, what can I do?
I changed my Steam identity so that I can get away from some people in-game, but they still can identify me. I assume they did it by nicknaming me themselves instead of just using my Steam nickname. Can I do anything to make it so that their nickname for me does not appear in-game? P.S. These people aren't on my Steam Friends list.

They still know you because they also put nicknames to you so that they can easily ricognize you

Nothing. If people give you a nickname, then that's their choice. Plus it's clear as day what your old profile names were. Anyone can see the last 10.

Also, changing your profile name and/or your custom URL does nothing if someone has your steamid. That will always go to whatever custom URL you have.

Maybe I should specify that what I'm looking for is in-game anonymity. If someone wants to go to Steam and check up my profile then okay, fine, but I'd like to stay anonymous at least in-game.

Your posts could also be the way people can still find you even if the name changes the posts still exist and are still linked to your account.

All I want is for those people to not be able to use their nicknames on me in-game, I don't care about Steam forums etc.

You can't. And it would be entirely pointless anyway as everyone in an online game has a unique ID and even if you'd get your anonymous name, people would be able to identify you by your unique ID.

Whatever name you give yourself, people will always be able to find you this way:
http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198030766760
That is a permanent link that will always show your account.

This is my profile link:
https://steamcommunity.com/id/nekomancer
This is my permanent link:
http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988393524
Both lead to the same page, the first can be changed, the second can not.

So, just so it's 100% clear, I cannot make it so people see the Steam nickname of my chosing in-game as long as they nicknamed me themseles, right?

That depends on the game. Usually, games just take your community name. But if a game shows the nickname, then it shows the nickname.
