Switch Pro Controller not recognized by PC/Steam
So I want to use my Pro Controller in some games, since apparently anyone can just plug one in and it works, but not me...

It doesn't work, like at all, it's updated to its latest firmware, wired communication is enabled, I do not have any type of third party controller emulator that I know of, my windows 10 install is fresh, the cable works fine, I have Steam's beta client, and the Switch Pro Controller configuration support on...

But when I plug the damn thing into my PC, nothing happens, like, my PC doesn't even recognize it, it doesn't appear in my device manager, it's not detected on Steam, it's not even charging and when I press buttons on it starts searching for a bluetooth connection...

I've tried everything and it just won't work, meanwhile people are literally just plugging their pro controllers in and it works instantly, what's going on?

Disable all the controllers in BPM, restart it, then enable just the Generic one.

Sadly that didn't work, again, for some reason my PC won't even recognize it, when I plug my cellphone with the exact same cable though my PC instantly detects it

Then the controller is probably faulty; return or exchange it.
Why do people want a controller from Nintendo though, I must ask.
They are extremely over priced and everything Nintendo makes surrounding "Switch" are extremely cheap in build quality.

Because I usually use my Xbox One Contrroler, thing is, the cable is broken or something and will sometimes disconnect the controller out of nowhere, and I had my switch controller laying around so I thought I'd try

But its the same cable for all of those devices...
MicroUSB to USB data-sync cable.

what?? The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller uses USB Type-C, so does my LG G6, the Xbox One Controller uses regular MicroUSB

Oh ok, wasn't aware it was Type-C; good of them to do that. This whole USB bullcrap is dumb. Type-C should have been how USB was from the very start.

You have another data-sync cable to try?
The device should at least show up in device manager.

yeah, tried two, as I said both the cables are able to transfer data, tried them with my phone, my Xbox Controller also has never had any issues, it's very annoying because as I said alot of people are able to just make it work out of the box, I've built this PC myself so I know it doesn't have any issues, I think it's either a Windows 10 issue or a Pro Controller firmware issue, either way I can't even test it as, again, my PC won't even make a sound when it connects, it doesn't detect it at all.

Okay, just tested it, I can confirm to you right now and there that my Windows is the issue, plugged the controller in an old laptop and it instantly detected it

Is it possible to re-flash the latest firmware again? Just to double-check this?
Ursus Anthraxis Nov 2, 2018 @ 11:43am
I don't think so, but here's the thing, if I check my Xbox One controller, it says it's Xinput compliant, the Pro Controller on that other laptop doesn't say it's Xinput compliant, now I'm wondering, because on the forums alot of people fixed wired connectivity issues with their pro controllers by uninstalling Xinput,

But where the hell is Xinput? I can't find it, its files, or anything about it on my PC apart from when I plug in an Xbox One controller...

https://superuser.com/questions/844072/how-to-completely-remove-a-game-controller-driver

Can also try IOBit Driver Booster and go into there and select option for "Remove instances of previously connected devices" When done, restart Windows, then re-connect the controller.

OKAY it's working, I have no idea how but after weeks of trying it's finally working, thank you for your help, I'll hope it stays that way.

I was having this same problem, and what seemed to work for me is holding the little search button on the top of the controller before plugging it into my PC.

Hate to necro this thread, but thank you so much. After doing just what you described I was able to finally get my PC and Steam to recognize my controller.
