why do updates on games take so much longer to do then seems to actually download a game i just spent like 15 mins on a 70mb update i feel like i couldve downloaded at least 3 or 4 gigs in that time and my internet speed never goes past kilabytes when doing updates whats the actual reason for that? this is an honest actual question not a complaint ive always noticed it but never actually thought why it does it

Check your download settings to see if it is not limited. If it is not lmited, do a SpeedTest using Oookla or Google's speed test.

my speed is constantly what i pay for its only during an update that it seems to just get stuck sometimes and do almost nothing

What download speeds do you normally get? What's your processor?

Steam unzips files as they're being downloaded which uses up CPU resources, because of that your downloads will be even slower if your CPU usage is high. Although even with a dual core a 70mb update shouldn't take long at all.

Cause its not as simple as downloading the update and be done; the process requires that other larger game files be copied over into the temp folder, then it takes the updates and injects them into the game files, then copies the new files with injected updates back into your game folder. The process is slow when using mechanical drives.
