Steam window displays too small on my 4K monitor
I have an ASUS MG28U 4K monitor set at the native resolution of 3820x2160. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64.. In ordrer to be able to read this window with the tiny text, I have to change the resolution. However sites like GOG Galaxy resize and this is no issue. I have my text DPI set at 200% but this does not matter. Why does Steam not resizie like GOG?

App developers have to make their software compatible with display scaling in Windows. Its one of the biggest issues with Windows DPI scaling.

In fact that's the only reason I haven't switched to 4k yet.

Welcome to the world of 4k as it falls on you to fix these types of issues.

You’re going to have to change your DPI Scaling settings to something around 250% or higher to make the screen legibly.

Also, check the DPI Compatibility settings for Steam. If you make sure all the boxes aren’t checked. However, doing this will cause issues when you launch games that don’t support high dpi scaling.

You will have to change the .exe file compatibilities for each game in your library to make sure that nothing goes wrong.

theres a setting in steam that makes the resolution bigger.

open steam
click steam (top left)
go to interface
then check the box that says "scale text and icons to match monitor settings"
restart steam

@Focusable - I don't see such option. What Steam version do you have?

Steam > Settings > Interface > First checkbox option.

another windows 7 4k user here, i can confirm this option in steam is MISSING on windows 7, i guessing its a win 10 implementation and valve instead of fix it for all OS's simply decided to hide it from windows 7 users hoping we wouldnt notice. steams scaling works on win10 and works on linux but not on win7, so annoying.

why cant they just add a zoom function, you know like the WEB BROWSERS ITS BASED UPON!

Same here- on my Windows 10 laptop DPI scaling option is there, on Windows 7 the option is just... not there.

@focusblade

I know this is an oldish post, but i wanted to say: Thank you focusblade. I totally forgot i had unchecked that box, and thought it was Java and Grampa's Table causing the problem, as i had issues getting that game up and running. I was beside myself trying to fix this problem. So, again, thanks. :)

OK, Yes settings use the "Scale text and icons..." But that doesn't solve everything. You also need to go to where your "steam.exe" is and change the "Compatibility" /"Change High DPI settings" And choose "Application"
This works for mew on a Windows 10 Pro PC.

Did the trick for me. Thank you!

Thank you man. Saved my life. Steam used to display fine on my 4K TV but then for whatever reason it suddenly got absolutely tiny and this worked perfectly.

I have same issue but in Linux. I have 2 monitors. Main is 4K and secondary is near FHD. I login with Steam ("steam-session" package) and steam occupies 1/4 my 4K monitor. And when I launch a game, game is showed partially in each screen.

I want game running only in my main monitor, at FHD, but there is no way to adjust resolution.

Any idea?

Thank you
