Then why does it show they charged $1? That means they still charged a dollar, even if they would cancel it right?
Well even if they don't collect the money, they still charged it, right?
Yes, they charged it, and they didnt collect the $1, nor where you billed for the $1, nor are you expected to pay for the $1 that they never collected since that will cancel. Most people never see the $1 charged because they dont look at their statements often enough and when the bill is sent to them, the $1 has dropped off and they never even know it was done since it does not show on the final bill they have to pay for using the credit card for that month.
Well I'm sorry if it looks like I'm worried about something unimportant, but that isn't my credit card, and I'm worried about what I've done.
Store verifies card is legitimate, makes a low amount transaction.
CC reports success, you tell store amounts, store knows card is good.
Transaction is never completed as it's just a verification charge.
Transaction drops off after CC company's policy dictates.
This goes for debit cards too, but with debit the money is on hold until it drops off.
