First, what are you talking about? Steam doesnt use a separate partition for the shader cache! You can delete the partition and see what program acts up, this program created the partition. I suggest uninstalling said program as partitions are the OS' and user's business, noones else!

WTF? If steam has the option to turn shader precaching on/off in the steam options then it is a steam app?.the games that use the shader precaching dont have any options in the for precache,if im right its the unity game engine that uses it but its implememnted by steam.
It creates a partion off 449mb on youre ssd/hdd just for precaching and i cant delete it.

Are you really sure its a partition and not a file? And if you in fact do see a partition, are you sure its from Steam and not the ESP?

I think youre seeing a file and lying about it being a partiton. In that case, turn shader precachimg off, close Steam, delete the file. If you still cant, start in safe mode and delete the file then.

Steam is not creating some shader precache partition. It has a directory in whichever /steamapps/ the game is located.

TBH i dont know which company has installed this,it could steam or nvidia,i dont use it i have a good gpu with 11gb ram,and a cache partition willl wear out a ssd faster, trouble is i cant delete the partion.

None of this indicates Steam creating a partition and Steam doesnt, by the way. If you indeed see a partition, it was created by something else. What happens when you try to delete this partition?

Microsoft makes one or two partitions of that size during installation for bookkeeping and recovery operations. You're not supposed to delete them. They're also not supposed to get a drive letter, which you can remove in diskmanagement. It's not related to steam at all.

It will still outlive it's useful lifespan. SSD's wearing out through use was only a valid concern for the first generation. Don't worry about it. You can write to it continuously 24/7, 52 weeks a year and it'll still last years.

The option just isn't there, through a command prompt/diskpart you'll get something like protected or not allowed, unless you use the override switch.

you cant delete it thats the problem, once its on its on,even in administrative mode in disk management you can delete or disable,i dont mind the principle of it but i would have liked it on my old ssd.

Why do you think this partition brlongs to Steam and not the OS itself?

because of 2 things, one it appeared after a steam update,i keep getting a message telling me the partion is full and when you bring up the cleanup box the partition is called shader precache which was first an option in steam and later on with nvidia and amd gpus,,,,but if you use nvidia gpu you need to turn precahcing off as it causes stuttering in some games.(many vids on you tube about this)P.S shader precahing is now and option in nvidia gpu control panel, but they allready use thier own form of precahing from what ive researched.

The partition was already there, the steam update just coincided with it (accidentally) getting a drive letter. Removing the drive letter also removes the partition full warnings.

Hage fun removing it then. Diskpart (the CLI utility) indeed has an oberride switch (its literally called that). While i still am damn sure its not a Steam partition (ajd i dearly hope for your own sake it isnt the ESP), you cant delete it. Not that this makes any actual sense as Washells right and its impossible to kill a modern SSD with cache, but you se hellbent on deleting it.

Still, its not from Steam so deleting it wont do jack about your shader cache (and i am still sure its the ESP which is needed for your system to boot).
