Steam account with Black Ops III lost.

Hi all

Hoping someone here can help me or point me to the right solution.

My nephew and his mom bought a physical copy of Black Ops III last year (2017) sometime. They then proceeded to activate that specific copy of the game with it's own unique cd-key on steam. Now, the problem they are having is that neither one of them can remember what the steam account's name was or to which email address that account was linked. I managed to find a couple of old steam accounts on their pc but they are not the accounts on which the game is registered. They can not even remember the email address of that account, so I cannot do a password or account recovery through steam for them.

Is there any way I can contact steam in order for them to check on their side to which account the specific cd-key of Black Ops III is registered, or to re-register this game on a different account? And just to let anyone know, yes this is a genuine game bought from an online retailer, we've got the physical game case with all 6 discs as well as the proof of purchase.

Unfortunately, you're going to need a username, an e-mail address or a phone number to even initiate the account recovery process. Simply having a key that was registered to the account wouldn't be enough. It's good if you can get to the proof of ownership part of the process, but without the aforementioned details, that won't be possible.

There is another way to recover an lost account IF you have valid proof of ownership which OP has so I don't see any issue recovering an lost account even if you don't have access to the username, phone number (if connected) or e-mail address.
