Do I need mobile authenticator for trades?

My cellphone is updating but it's taking forever. So do I still need mobile authenticator when trading with someone. Not trade offers I mean.

You do not require the mobile authenticator.

All you need is Steam Guard Enabled for 15 days.

The mobile authenticator just removes trade holds - when you have been using it for 7 days.

Using Steam Guard (E-mails), you can trade without mobile confirmations.

All of your trades will be held though.

You could change to e-mail based Steam Guard, but likely your phone will be finished updating before the cooldown for changing Steam Guard.

does it have to be just 7days starting from the day you've added it- or exactly 168 hours since you've added it?

Both are exactly the same amount of time.
