Suddenly getting LOADS of random message requests on Steam
They're all the same thing, just crappy scam site links. Why am I suddenly getting messages from people who I am not even friends with?

For clearance:
I am not in any group chats, which means that people cannot message me through affiliation of those.
Therefore, people cannot message me without being on my friendslist, but yet I am still getting random notifications of "a user is requesting to speak with you" followed by a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ scambot message.

It would appear it would most likely emanate from accounts that we're or have been already breached but in the meantime, stick to reporting and blocking as usual.

Might have something to do with bots and the fact you are in so many Steam groups.

Possibly through group chat pages where scammers / spammers exist.

Block & report those users and move on.

I am not in any group chats. I am not using any "dodgy websites".

Users cannot directly message someone without being their friend. This does not make sense.

If this were the case, you wouldn't be getting messages from users not on your friend list. Clearly it's possible. They're doing it through groups.

Note that, they tend to target users with an expensive inventory.

We cannot exactly predict IF / WHEN they suddenly appear as one swath.

If you're getting messages, it'd definitely through the group chat pages.

Hence why, it's important to report those users as i have said.

I've always had a private profile and have NEVER got those requests spammed.

So we just have to keep our public profile privated? Because steam allows people we don't have added message us?

Do note that this isn't mandatory.

It can help, yes.

I just think Steam should allow a button saying "Allowing non friends to message you" that you could disable.

Just having a private or friends only inventory can be just as effective. You don't need to make your entire profile private.

If I make my inventory privated bots can still send me messages, probably less often, but they will.

That's why it's important to not join dodgy groups or register on shady websites, especially if you are starting to list items for sale on there.

I'm not in that much of groups, half of them are mines or of my friends, and the rest are non-CS related.

Having also in fact that I logged out on every "fishy" page I could have logged in. As CSGO Gambling websites. (By changing your password should work, it automatically logs out, at least it did for me)
