I'm not an expert with Mac's. Isn't there a compatability mode in OSX like there is in windows where you can tell it to "Run as *this* version" of the operating system that corrects those kinds of things?
I'd rather see you use the newest client just to prevent issues but if there's no way around it for the older games you want to play it's something you can try but it's not going to work for very long. As Washell said there is a time limit for running games in offline mode which is 2 weeks (I've learned the hard way). You have to log in online and launch the game you're playing at least once every 2 weeks or the game will not launch anymore after those 2 weeks of playing it in offline mode expires.
I'll look through my support tickets to share what support told me about it.
I was playing a game in offline mode because I didn't have internet and all of a sudden one day the client wouldn't go in to offline mode...because of this 2 weeks thing.
So you'll have to get the games running on the current version somehow. Maybe using an OS emulator to run the same older version of OSX will do it?
The client is not working below OSX 10.8 but I have returned in 10.6 for reasons related to how crap OSX have became.
The games that I can play on this little machine should work.
I guess I will give it a shot, what could go wrong anyway.
I will try a game tonight and report back in case anyone find this thread with google search and want answers on the matter.

No.
The client VERIFIES its installation and checks for updates as soon as you start it.
This process cannot be disabled; though you can hide the pop-ups but the process is still going on in the background.
technically it is not a hacked client, it is an authorized old version, but this is exactly what I'm looking for and opened this thread.
If this client can get me in trouble, because if it is I will keep playing on this macbook the games I have on gog and ignore my steam library.
I wonder if I can get a solid answer from the support if this client can get me in trouble. Probably it is not a problem that I loged once (because I could have just logged in a forgoten machine and it will autoupdate soon for exampe, so nothing weird) but what if I keep loggin?
Is it worth risking a permanently locked account? You tell me.
Actually...they may be able to suggest a way you can run the old games on the newest client.
I haven't dealt with support very often but the times I have they were very helpful and did everything they could to resolve my issue and satisfy my concerns and get me playing the games I wanted to play if it was in any way possible to have a positive result in what I wanted or was concerned about.
