Start minimize to tray

How to "force" Steam to starts minimized to tray icon? It's a pain in the ass when you click the Steam's shortcut and the app simply pop up, even when you are using another full screen app...

Other day I was playing some Blizzard's game and then alt tabed, clicked on Steam icon... in a few seconds, the ♥♥♥♥ went down, my game got minimized, Steam poped up, almost screwed my match... then, a few secs later, the friend/chat window did the same! all over again...

is there any way to force Steam to calm the ♥♥♥♥ down when you start the program?

Append the -silent parameter to the shortcut.

Seems like putting the command "-silent" at Steam's shortcut kind resolve the issue :)

... That link leads to a completely unrelated discussion. It's about starting Steam on boot with Linux.
The OP was asking about manually starting Steam from a shortcut and he didn't specify a platform which means it's most likely Windows.

Yeah, like most users, I use Windows (10). It's the default system, I guess... if one does not specify the OS, you could easily presume it is windows.

This still works today. I tried it just now with success. There is no need to change registry values.

Just an FYI because there are many weirdo fixes going around in 2023 and the new Steam UI.

Well now Steam on startup no longer starts Minimized since the new UI update. Bloody hell Valve!

so the question is whether to start hacking together a solution, or wait for Valve to fix it, since this should be an obvious issue.

It obviously works as intended - forcing you to view the store page every time you start your PC. Do you guys know of any work around or should i simply disable steam automatically turning on whenever i start my PC?

Yah I had to disable it from starting up w/ my pc. Sad that they are trying to force you to view the store page.

Doesn't work for me, still pops up
EDIT: -silent worked for me after setting the start location to library, I don't know why this works
