Steam cloud just restores game save files, when you have Steam cloud on, it will sync game save files when you close the game, and when you reinstall the game it will download the latest sync game save files.

Not sure what this sorting about, since you can only turn on, or off Steam cloud.

Steam is slow to close. If you shut down your computer before closing steam first it's common for windows to shut down steam before it has a chance to upload all the changes you made. If and when you do major categorization work, the trick is to fully exit steam and wait a few minutes. Even if you're not going to shut down your PC or anything, just consider exiting it the "save button".

If you didn't close it at all, you're in luck. Add and remove a game from a category on your PC and then close Steam, it will detect it as the most recent change and overwrite the cloud with your PC categorization.

If your PC is off, turn it on but stop it connecting to the internet (turn off router if wifi or unplug cable), start in offline mode and do the above, then close it and connect to the internet.

The cloud sync process was interrupted hence some categories were lost.

As per your other thread, try getting a previous version of the sharedconfig.

Quite unfortunate.

Re-create your categories and keep a backup.

Ensure that you wait for Steam Cloud Sync to finish before shutting down.
