How do you get Battlefield Vietnam to work for Windows 10?

I've tried compatibilty and DirectPlay, Anything esle? I'd love to play the game again, its been a decade.

Hardware wise it shouldn't be a problem running it. Is that where you're having the problem, it crashes or won't launch at all? Or you can't find servers to play on?

The system requirements recommend Windows 7, directX 9.c through 11 so it should just run on win10 without having to do anything.

I Googled your question and found a post on the EA question and answer website that was marked as solved in 2014 that said http://www.gameranger.com/ was still running it back then.
If it's that you can't find servers that may also be the solution for you.

Download and install the latest game patch for it.
Then change the Game EXE properties for compatibility and select WinXP SP3
and also disable Full Screen Optimization there as well.
Disable Win10 GameMode

What is Win10 GameMode ? Because I just followed all your steps except Win10 GameMode and the game still does not launch ... I see the icon of charge of the mouse but after 2-3s still nothing ??

Your solution does not work ... Sorry to tell you.

After reading and doing the instructions of Mr. RickGM16 the game (for me) to walk! So be careful when you download mods in .rar and there is already the "pre-folder" Mod.dll inside, DO NOT REPLACE THE MOD.DLL FILE ESPECIALLY, because it will replace the good folder (NoDVD) and that will kill your game ...
Here on this do not forget to test your ideas before swinging everything wrongly and thank you!

Do you try the solution I mentioned above? If so, how well do you do the steps of my links because normally before doing all that? Because it is absolutely necessary (just after your basic instalation of BF Vietnam) that you download the patches 1.2 and 1.21 (1.2 to 1.21).

Yes install patch 1.20 and then 1.21 first before attempting to launch the game. If launch fails try changing the exe properties to Run As Admin, and perhaps change its option to Win7

Personally mine works in compatibility Windows XP Pack 3 so I'll advise you the one;)

Guys! If you are having problems getting BFVietnam with the game disks, to work after a hiatus, then have I got news for you!!!

I just purchased the retail version on EBay, brand new, unopened. I installed it with all the BS. Nothing. I uninstalled it. I reinstalled it. Nothing. One more time. Nothing. I was trying all the compatibility tricks and the Admin tricks. Nothing. I followed this thread. Followed the link above. On it it lists various solutions for problems associated with the game. Scroll to Availability. Then past DLC and Expansion Packs, past Essential Improvements past Patches to finally Online Play Support. After the paragraph, there is a rectangular box and the words "Patched Executable" highlighted in blue. Follow the link. You'll see a section for BFVietnam, Make sure you have a fresh install. Follow the link and instructions, you'll be downloading the patched executable that is zipped. The unzipped items have to reside in the BFVietnam folders respectively. Follow the 'Simple' instructions once unzipped. After that try the game and it should run. I did this as Administrator but you don't have to. You also don't need to mess with compatibility mode any more. The DRM feature disabled the game in Windows 10. If you have to, uninstall and just reinstall, enter the game key and wait till the end, believe me it is worth it. Then follow the links as above and you will be playing in no time. The multiplayer part I got after messing around with it. I didn't install the other components like the Acegain, or the server manager, just the BFVietnam game. I may go back and install the other garbage later after I have some fun with my BFVietnam! Add the stuff you want, I'm sure it will be fine. You may have to start the Autorun program to get the other things installed, I just thought it was a waste of time. Happy Battlefield Vietnam gaming! Troy Lawson
