Is it a Steam key? You can't save keys. They get redeemed.

https://store.steampowered.com/account/registerkey

Try it.

actually no. see what im getting at as an example is i own dragon age ultimate edition here in steam. dragon age 2 and inquisition is not in steam,so if i were to buy a copy elsewhere, can i use the registry to save it to my account and redeem the download should i have a bad computer?

If it is not a Steam key, no. Sounds like an Origin key to me.

You tie them to an Origin account. Then your Origin account acts just like a Steam account. Download whenever wherever.

Dragon Age 2 and Inquisition (actually there may have been a retail version of 2, can't remember) require Origin, the key would be bound to your Origin account thus if you switched computers you would log back into origin to redownload them

true, but im simply asking for the sake of having as few apps on my laptop as possible. if its at all possible to tie it to steam that would be preferred but if not its understandable.

Nope.

EA wanted their own client for their games.

You would still have to install Origin anyways, for DA:Inquisition.
