Need to trace IP Address for stolen laptop
My laptop was purchased with counterfeit money and was wondering if there is a way to trace the IP address of my steam account on the stolen laptop to pinpoint where my laptop is located. Law enforcement including the Attorney General and Secret Service are involved.

Not without a court order, no.

Contact the police cyber crimes unit.

Some how I doubt either of those last two claims are true.
Secondly. As for tracking where... that depends. IP addresses are not unique and can be easily spoofed. The most an IP address can tell with any certainty is the ISP that the person was connected to. Assuming they don't use anything like a proxy or a vpn...
The best you will get without a court order...

And Steam Guard login emails IF the person tries to log into your account.

Last 2 claims of what? I was given $1,250 for an Alienware 17 laptop. Out of the cash 10 $100 bills were counterfeit. Why would I lie about something as simple as that?

So does counterfeit money not get turned over to The Secret Service? Not to mention 10 $100 bills. I suppose you are a law enforcement official being that I've received this information for a police officer themselves.

Appreciate it. I just need to know where the laptop is so I can recover it and that just gives me the last location of the state my steam account was used.
heh, learn something new everyday.. now granted I am not American, but I always assumed investigating possible Counterfeiting rings would fall under the jurisdiction of the FBI or CIA, but after reading the OP i looked it up and it does appear to fall under the Secret Services Jurisdiction..

sorta surprised actually..

either way OP, you are not likely to get it back sorry to tell you.. if you hadn't already wiped the Laptop before you sold it (which you should always do when selling a PC, Tablet, or Phone) they are likely to take whatever data of worth off of it and reformat it for personal use or resale (probably resale as a form of money laundering)..

My sources in the NSA tell me they are on this incredible case now too.
So I can find out the last location my steam account was used, but not exactly where my laptop is at 🤔🤨

The secret service wouldn't need your help with that.

while the SS certainly wouldn't be assisting him with recovering his laptop (heck, in this situation they may even take it themselves for possible evidence), what I can see online does point to them being the agency that investigates mass money counterfeiting.. granted as said not American, but thats what a few sites I looked up say is within their jurisdiction at least..

kid probably doesn't realize the difference between them investigating a counterfeiting ring, and investigating his "stolen" laptop

as said OP, your not going to get that laptop back.. if you wanted it, you shouldn't have sold it in the first place.. take it as a life lesson and be more careful in the future

Wanting and selling are two different things bud. Do you think I wanted to sell it because I knew I was gonna get counterfeit money? I wanted to sell it to make some money to help with bills not because I "wanted" to get ripped off. If you are gonna troll at least have some decency to make intellectual valid statements.
