In Steam Client, cannot click on any action buttons *SOLVED*
Hey, I have a weird and very frustrating issue that's started a couple of days ago that I hope someone can help with. I can no longer click on any action buttons other than the"play" button or the "buy" button on store pages. This means I can't favourite or subscribe to any workshop mods, I can't start discussions or reply to existing ones (I've had to log into the web client to make this post), the only buttons that work are navigation links to move from page to page, Play & Buy buttons.

I have tried everything I can think of, even uninstalling and reinstalling the Steam client, but nothing is working. I submitted a ticket to Steam Support but their reply is "if you can't show us the error on a screenshot, we can't help you" - a static screenshot shows nothing, and they won't accept a third-party screencast link so I can't even demonstrate the issue via video.

Anyone here have any ideas? I am totally stuck :( thanks in advance!

I ended up going into my Steam folder > Appcache and deleting the httpcache folder completely, and from the main Steam folder I deleted the html5app folder, and the resource folder (which drives how overlays look & work). And then in my user > AppData > Local > Steam folder I deleted the htmlcache & widevine folders.

Additionally, I cleared out the browser cache & cookies from the Steam Browser (find that in Settings in the Steam app).

The I just restarted Steam and let it reload those deleted folders fresh and everything worked again. PHEW!

Have you tried clearing your cache?

Do you shut your PC down or set it to sleep?

Typically just let it sleep, but it does get turned off and on several times a week. I restarted it for example a couple of times yesterday while trying to solve this problem.

Hi, this is a bit of an old post, I just wanted to say thanks, this is literally THE ONLY HELPFUL POST on this topic I found. Even reinstalling didn't work. I have no idea which one of thses steps actually did the trick, but my buttons work again. Finally! <3!!!

~~~ Narrowed down ~~~
I tried these steps individually. For me, at least, the other steps didn't help, and the one that finally worked was deleting "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\resource" folder, then restarting Steam.
Okay so, I am having a similar problem and this is the only discussion of it I can find. Like you I am having problems with various buttonss, such as the Subscribe button on the Workshop, but I am also unable to view the screenshots of Mods and I can't even view my own posts. I've tried the fix mentioned here but it didn't work. Sorry for the Necro but this is like the only place I know someone will reply.
THANKS MAN, it was so painful, steam just was so slow
For anyone who is also having this issue and none of this works, I found another potential solution.
Go to Steam > Settings > Interface > Client Beta Participation, then make sure that it is switched to "No Beta Chosen". This is what ultimately fixed it for me when I was having issues not being able to click any of the buttons in Steam Overlay on Payday 2.
