installing a game using the root folder
hey, so i bought r6 siege a couple of days ago and i asked a friend for a backup of the game, but he just copied the game's root folder to my hard drive. how can i install the game using that root folder? i tried waiting for the downloader to download a little and then replacing the files in the game folder but when i start the game it shows the downloader again but this time it doesn't download anything and it also doesn't recognize the new files i copied. what can i do?

Did you get the appmanifest (acf) file that goes with the game?

But how did you purchase the game a couple of days ago when the last game you purchased or added to your account was in 2015?

yes, there is a "RainbowSix.exe.manifest" file right under the "rainbowsix.exe".
and idk whay is it showing that, maybe because i didn't exactly "purchase" any games, it's all steamgifts. due to certain laws in our country i can't charge my steam wallet directly through steam.

It would still show you added the game by increasing the game collector badge.

And the acf file does not belong in the same folder as the games exe.

so you're saying the root folder doesn't contain all I need to install the game? so what should i do?

Ask your friend for the appmanifest ACF file from the Steamapps folder.

Steam\ -> steamapps\ -> *.acf
Steam\ -> steamapps\ -> Common\ -> RB6\

i downloaded the appmanifest file from the internet, now with that appmanifest in the steamapps folder it doesn't start to download the game when i start it, but after recognizing all the files it says "updating failed because appmanifest_399550 is missing or something like that. but i also have a copy of this file from my own original steamapps folder and when i replace the one i downloaded with the one i already had, it starts to download the whole 56gb again. i don't understand what is the problem. it's probably about the manifest file but how is it that neither of them helps me to launch the game? could it be because the one i downloaded is out of date and i should get the latest version? idk just saying the file was uploaded on 31st of may and i got my copy in like, 3rd or sth.

You see, I am pretty sure grabbing a random users acf file is not how it is supposed to be done.

I still am trying to figure out if you truly own the game on your Steam account since you said...

And your Steam badge does not reflect your statement.

Did you by chance purchase it on Uplay? That would explain everything that is going on.

No one can see your library. It is private in your profile settings under "Games Details" since the privacy update defaulted everyone to private.

so, there should be no issue making your profile public then...

ok guys this is really starting to get creepy. i started the game and it went to installation and after it discovered all the existing files, there's still a 7gb download... wth? is there anyway i skip this? my downlload speed is like 120kb/s
Si-Fi Jul 5, 2018 @ 5:57pm
The reason why it is downloading the files again because the acf file is a mismatch as every acf file is different regardless of their manifest or app id.
