Ps4 controller won't work with Assassin's Creed: III ?

It works fine with Witcher 3, however when I go to Assassin's Creed 3 (this is all in Big Picture mode of course) I select the controller in controls options, it does say Xbox 360 controller for it, but it should be able to work with Ps4 controllers as well I can tell it should be able to work because I can use the Ps4 home button to get back to Steam. Unless Assassin's Creed 3 is not able to be used with Ps4 because it was released a year after the game was out so may not be supported. None of the buttons work with the controller on the controller mode switched on in options. Does it work with a Ps3 controller? or is it only for Xbox 360 controllers, because I have no clue where mine is and I am not familiar with its layout. Anyone know a fix WITHOUT installing a third party software? (New computer and I do not want viruses :P)

Try going into your Steam Settings > Controllers > General Controller Settongs

You can try the other options too (Desktop Configuration) that could help.
