why use an external antivirus? mostly they are the ones that cause the problems. Use windows antivirus and scan, it gives more accurate results

My friend tells me it gives no accurate results.
If it was accurate, how didn't it tell me about Exploit.CVE-2017-3036.Gen?

ok, scan with malawarebytes too and IF it finds Exploit.CVE-2017-3036.Gen? then your steam.exe is propably curropted

I have bullguard it picks up a lot of false positives.

If your sure its a false positve select false positive when you are informed of the detection. Reboot.

EDIT: Steam.exe has never been a false positive on my systems when I've used Bullguard so be sure its is false before following advice above. I'd recommend redownloading the Steam installer on your system. Scan it then install this version before attempting point 1.

If you can run Steam.exe then nothing else required. If you can't run Steam


1. Open the BullGuard and go to Settings > Advanced (upper right corner).
2. Go to Antivirus and turn it off.

Reinstall the Steam.

3. Go back to the main window and in the Antivirus box click on the small menu button " ... " and in the drop-down menu select Quarantine.
4. In the Quarantine window select the application file, then click on Restore.

6. Select the option "Skip files/folders", then click on "files/folders".
7. Find and select the application file/folder so that it is no longer detected.
8. Turn the Antivirus back on .

I suggest you to use Bitdefender (NOT ADVERTISING)
SInce it has gaming mode and its more Secure and Accurate


OR

This Antivirus is right and Your steam Client got infected by some Steam Viruses (i hope not)
And you can try to scan it in a website called "Virustotal" to make sure, IF it was a real virus then
