Download speed faster on my brother's pc, why?
On my brother's pc, steam downloads games at around 35MB/s while my pc downloads at around 11MB/s
We live in the same house with the same internet connection and we're both using an ethernet cable.
My bandwith is not limited and we're downloading from the same regions
No his pc doesnt show the download speed in bits
My brother himself doesn't even know why his pc downloads at a faster speed
it's a real pain when downloading 70GB games

How many devices are using the connection at this moment?

What speeds does your family pay for?

Switch the ethernet ports on your router. (For example : your brother has LAN PORT 2, you have PORT 3) Just switch yours to Port 2 and your brother to port 3 and see if something changed.

There could be restrictions put in place in router config and it's possible your brother is just playing dumb. But you can't prove this without looking in router settings.

Pretty sure your router has a data traffic priority setting enabled (Usually called QOS, wich means Quality of service) (Ranged from high to low priority , Ports 1-4) These settings can be turned on by default if you have digital TV, or it can be customized and tailored to IP addresss, LAN port, MAC address or a combination of all of these. Hard to tell without knowing your router settings.

Either turn that feature off or change priority settings in the router. If you have digital TV via internet on port 1, don't mess with that setting. It could cause a crappy TV experience.

Also, check post below from Johnny, because it makes sense.

check your ethernet cable if it's an old cat5 or a cat 5e/6, and the ethernet card may be limited to 100mbps which would explain the 11MBps (= 100Mbps)

I have a similar problem. Both PC’s are running the same Ethernet cord, the one in port 1 is much slower than the one in port 2. The pc in port 1 downloads around 20-40 MB/s(fluctuates bad) and the pc in port 2 downloads at a constant 60 MB/s.
