So, after looking around for more than 2 hours and messing with the device information and the Windows API, it seems that it isn't possible to get the battery level of the Pro Controller inside Windows 10 (at least without writing custom drivers).

Either the Pro Controller doesn't send battery level when paired to a PC or Windows doesn't handle it. In both case, it makes it impossible for me to write a quick program to read this data and I have neither the time nor the skill to make a driver for the Pro Controller that would work with Big Picture.

BetterJoy is an app that translates Switch input into XInput or DS4, it also shows the controller's battery level. Maybe it would help you out? IDK :D

2021 checking in, does the pro controller have any battery notification features through steam yet?

There this program called better joy. Its what you use for motion controls in cemu/dolphin. It also has a lot of customization options in the config tab. Anyways might be worth it to ask the creator of the tool to add a feature where the battery is displayed using the colors of the homebutton or something.
