How do I disable auto log in to friends list?

Googling it, people have said I need to go to Steam->settings->friends but there is no friends menu in my settings. The submenus on the left are Account, Family, In-Game, In-Game Voice, etc. There is no "Friends." Am I looking in the wrong spot..?

No, you're in the right spot - 'Friends' should be second in the list, between 'Account' and 'Family'. Take a screenshot of what you're seeing, edit out your username with Paint or something then upload it to an image host and post a link to it.

The settings menu is now in the friends window itself. Top right corner there is a COG icon.

They moved it if you are in the Chat beta.

Odd. On mine the Friends menu is under Account and above Family.

Oh, that'll be why. As an ex-IT professional, I avoid betas like the plague as I've already done my share of testing other people's crud.

I disabled the beta and it's back in the menu where it used to be. Thanks

Of course, the cog only appears if you're logged in. So if you are already offline, you have to go online again in order to tell it to stop automatically going online.
