using external usb DAC with gaming headset

My soundcard is not that great so I was wondering if a fiio e10k olympus would power up my gaming headsets? I was told that,

headphone amp/Dacs don’t work with gaming headsets as they only have a 3.5mm 3 pole headphone jack not a 4pole headset jack.

You’d need a USB soundcard.


- can someone second this? I was hoping to get a external dac just to improve my stereo headsets using a splitter 3.5mm jack.

First, if its a DAC indeed, then you dont need a splitter as the microphone wont work without an ADC anyway. If you mean "full USB sound adaptor" whn you say "DAC", then sure, get a splitter and itll work just fine.
