Use PS4 controller on Steam w/o turning PS4 on.

I just set it up so I can use my PS4 controller on Steam. However, whenever I turn the controller on, it also turns on the PS4. Is there a way to prevent that from happening, aside from out right unplugging the PS4?

You need to reset the Bluetooth inside the controller, dont know if its even possible with ds4 but on ds3 there was a small hole on the backside that you had to press something in, try googling how to reset ds4 bluetooth

Try this

Step 1: Turn off and unplug your PS4™ from the wall or power strip.
Step 2: Unplug the power to your router or modem.
Step 3: Locate the small reset button on the back of the DS4 near the L2 shoulder button
Step 4: Use a small, unfolded paper-clip or something similar to push the button inside the tiny hole. Hold the button down for roughly 3-5 seconds and release.
Step 5: Attempt to re-pair the DS4 with the PS4™ by connecting the USB cable from the controller to the console.
Step 6: Turn on the PS4™, then press the PS button to log into your profile.
Step 7: The light bar will turn blue indicating the DS4 has paired.

Dont know why they want you to unplug everything tho, you dont need to
And obviously you only need to go up until step 4

I'm not having issues with connection to my PS4, though.. This sounds like troubleshooting steps for that. I just want to know if there's a way for it to prevent turning my PS4 on while I'm plugged into my PC via USB without having to plug and unplug the PS4 repeatedly when I go back and forth to games.

It didn't say it never happens on PCs either..
You just said your PS4 turns on? You can control it even when playing games on?
You got a PS4 and a PC, turn on the controller and see if pressing the buttons makes stuff happens on both or not. Check yourself if I'm right or wrong.

If it does then it can cause problems, non-refundable problems.
Either make damn sure your PS4 didn't turn on when playing on PC or unplug it.
