Does Steam HAVE to be on C Drive?
I have more room on my D Drive than my C Drive -the latter of which is almost full and the former of which has 80% of the disk space available... would there be any negative impact to uninstalling Steam (and the games I have installed) from my C Drive and reinstalling it (and the games) on my D Drive?

I am not the most knowledgable about computers so I felt I should ask here and see if anyone had insight in the matter

You are able to install games onto another drive.

Don't uninstall Steam. Simply add a new library on your D drive.

Steam (top left) > settings > downloads > Steam Library Folders > add library folder

My whole Steam folder + games is on an external hard drive

Steam doesn't have to but games sometimes get problematic on other drives. Windows might also be confused if you put stuff it didn't expect on other drives.

I recommend you put Steam on C and then install games on whatever drive you feel like using the library folders like snapjack said. You can even move all the games using Steam to the other folder without reinstalling.
You can also just create the library folder, exit steam and move the steamapps folder to the new drives folder and restart Steam and it should all detect the games.

This way you can try games on whatever drive you want, you can even default to put it on D but then you can move specific games back if you get problems.

Thanks, I got most of my games moved already.. but I'm running into an odd occurrence with From The Depths... it says it is on C Drive's library, but when I try to move it to D, it says it is there already.
If it's giving you problems, the fastest way would probably be deleting it an re-downloading it elsewhere. Unless bandwidth is slow or limited. Then you can maybe make steam back-up and install it to a new location with that.
Dont put things on c that you want to keep after os reinstall.

Yeah, it's always better to keep os seperate for os formating. Small SSD for OS is cheap these days, or you can make partition at least.

Still, if you put Steam on the OS drive and all the games on other drives/partitions then you get the same effect with less potential issues. Steam is easy to redownload and reattach to the library folders.
Never had an issue without steam on c
