Steam client won't install update.
Steam, Valve, whoever. Please fix your client. I've seen a lot of people complaining about this issue, and unless you legitimately don't have a fix for it (if so please for gods sake put one on the steam client help section) you are and are going to have a lot of people stop using this amazing but incredibly for whatever reason buggy system. I would really like to play my steam games. They're good games, but i cant because for the last almost year Steam has an update that it CANNOT INSTALL, and i therefore cannot open Steam. The way this works is honestly stupid. Steam doesn't need that update. But you are forcing it upon us, and if you can't install it, well... you're screwed.
Honestly, I'm not seeing the Steam support or whatever make any attempt to fix this. So I guess I have to rely on other people. Giving Steam support 1 out of 10 stars. If anyone has any suggestion or method on how to fix this issue, that would be greatly appreciated. Though all of the methods I've tried so far have not worked.
I just want to play my games like anyone else, so Steam, please get on this.

Never heard this in all my years.

Re-install Steam and I suggest before you install again, open up Ccleaner and delete the junk reg entries and so on.

To anyone that's having this problem (I know the post itself is a year old), I've found a fix that doesn't involve deleting and reinstalling the whole of steam (which ranges from an inconvenience to a downright decent into madness).
Go to your main Steam folder and delete everything except Steam.exe and Steamapps. Then simply run Steam.exe and it will automatically install the most recent update :)
Worked for me and a few other people in any case, nothing to lose!

All wrong places to start troubleshooting. The simplest and LEAST invasive method is here. It worked for me. I tried reinstalling it too, that didn't fix it.

So, start steam in offline mode first.

Solution 2: Disable/Reenable Your Internet Connection
Another solution that worked for the majority of users was to disable your internet/WiFi and plugging it back on.

Unplug your internet connection/disable WiFi.
Launch Steam and wait for the dialogue box to appear.
Restore the connection and proceed with the login. The steam client should check for updates and later on launch properly.

Hope this helps!
