Ubisoft games not launching through Steam

Okay, so first off, my friend is having this issue not myself but basically any Ubisoft game purchased and downloaded through Steam will not launch at all. It boots up then immediately crashes again. Any game purchased and downloaded through Uplay will work fine but if it was purchased through Steam it will not launch at all. I have searched about 20 different forums across the internet and tried every suggested fix but none have worked so far.

Tried launching Steam, Uplay and the game as administrator. Tried reinstalling Uplay, including fully deleting the Ubisoft folder from Program Files(x86). Tried Opting out of Steam Update Beta. The only game that is exempt from this rule is Assassin's Creed Black Flag which was purchased through Uplay and still wouldn't launch. But generally if it is bought through Uplay it'll work but if it bought through Steam it will not. As if they are not communicating with each other.

Windows Event Viewer brought up error code 0xc000000005. Googling this didn't help much. If we try launching through Uplay instead of Steam it automatically boots up Steam anyway even if Steam has been fully shut down before hand.

Any help would be great because we're running out of ideas now. Don't really want to spend money buying the same game from Uplay instead when it is already owned on Steam and it is too late to get a refund from Steam for them.

What happens if you start the game in uplay?
