Disk Write error

So I just uninstalled FSX:SE completley as my scenery config file got corrupted. Now when I try to install it to my second drive I'm getting a disk write error. I've ran CHKDSK and defragmented it and no problems are there. I can still copy files and delete files from the drive normally too, so I'm not sure what's going on.

First, the support article on disk write errors has way more things for you to do than just scandisk. Second, start your system in safe mode (obviously with networking), does it install then?

Never seen any support article on disk write errors. I haven't tried safe mode so I'll give that a go in a bit. Currently doing some stuff.

Okay. I found the issue, my steam library folder on my drive is read only. I unchecked the read only box, but it immediatley goes back to read only for some reason. Any ideas?

Again, safe mode. See if the error still occurs there.

Ok, so its not a crappy background program that does this (which is a good firsr guess for weird problems). Does it also happen on the other drive?

No, I can install games to my main C: drive just fine.

Ok... Is the Steam library folder the only thing affected on the drive or do the other folders get their properties reset as well?

Other files seem to be affected too, they're all read only as well apparently, although other programs/installers can write to the drive just fine.

Can you back up the stuff on the drive amd format it anew? Resetting read-only attributes that also happens in safe mode is quite a weird problem.

I'd rather not if it's avoidable. Have a lot on there and my backup drive is really slow to write to, would take all day.
