Help with endless downloads in Steam
Every day when I turn on my computer steam starts downloading and thus throttling my sadly limited bandwidth for quite a while since we're talking 300-400 mb or more before it stops. I don't know if it's directly related, but the free space on my hd is slowly decreasing.

I've searched for issues on this without finding something applicable to my situation.

First of all, in my games library, there are no indications of games or workshop items being downloaded. When that's the case it says right there next to the game that it's being updated.

I need to go to the download section (or windows resources to see what is using the network) to know that steam is the culprit. There I can tell that a download is happening because the left column saying network usage shows that it's going on. But no more details on what is being downloaded.

-I pause the download and check for steam-client updates, but it's up to date, so that's not what's going on - and steam doesn't need updates of this magnitude every day, right?

-I've cleared the download cache in Steam to no avail.

-I've checked the appmanifest files in the steamapps folder since apparently some games get stuck re-downloading themselves, but both files I find there have the value 4 and are thus complete from what I understand.

Any help that can be provided? I would prefer not to have to re-install everything. Just downloading the games would take two days :)

Many thanks!

Mind showing me a screenshot of your download page when you can see it downloading something while not saying what? (Where you pressed pause).

Also you can disable auto updating in steam, did you do that as well? Should not be downloading anything if not manually started by you.

I hope this works since I couldn't find a way to upload an image here in the thread itself.

Strange, you are sure there aren't any workshop items being downloaded? + Did you recently delete games from your game library?

All my installed games in the library show only the game name and nothing else following it (typically it says "updating" or something when that's happening - at least that's what I'm used to).
I did remove a game not too long ago, Europa Universalis IV, but I did that through steam and it's now greyed out like the other games I don't have installed. Do you think that is acting up somehow?

Yeah I have been googling for you and came across this topic. His solution is in comment #8. Worth a try.

By the way, I haven't tried to turn off auto-updates as I need to do this for every game. I could do it one by one and see if it doesn't happen with one of them. But that's a bit of a hassle, so asking for input in case I'm missing something before that (and before the whole re-install process...) :)
Thanks for helping!

Thank you. The "downloading" folder under steamapps is empty right now even though I resumed the steam download. But maybe I can try the trick of reinstalling and then uninstalling and deleting local data. I did try to uninstall another game right now, though, and it didn't give me the option to delete local content...

You tried the same trick as he did in the topic I linked already?

Yes, and like I said the downloading folder is empty while the download is going on :)

Sorry I misunderstood the post a little bit. Looking at some others solutions they are among the stuff you already tried.. sadly.

You can try re-installing steam to see if that fixes the issue, once you re-installed steam you can just load your old library in it, you don't have to download all the games again. Or create a new library and move the game files there.

Try using Big Picture Mode to view what is downloading.
