There have been a few people experiencing problems since the recent update; could you ensure that both the client and the game have the overlay enabled? If it is enabled you can try to disable it and then enable it again.
Client:
Open the Steam client and navigate to the Steam > Settings/Preferences > In-game tab. Check the box next to Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.
Specific game:
Right-click the game in your Library > Select Properties > Under the General tab, check the box next to Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.
The last advice I could offer is to attempt verify the local game files;
Find Game in Library -> Right click -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Files
If all the above does not work, and you have restarted both your computer and steam, then it seems you may have to wait for an update fix.
Best of luck
Still doesn't work, but thanks for trying.
