Any way to stop G29 steering wheel registering as a controller for other non-racing games?
Hey,
So this is just absolutely driving me up the wall now. It seems something with steam is seriously bugged when it comes to controllers like flight sticks and racing wheels.

I've just had to quit out of yet another game because steam is recognising my G29 racing wheel as a controller.. for games such as For Honor. What this means is that the accelerator is acting as an axis control and makes the character run wither forwards or backwards. if i balance the pedal at 50% then i can make him stand still. Is there any way to stop this from happening? it seems a bit random tbh. the first time i played For Honor there was no problem.

It's happened in other games too, only ever through steam however. The answer could be to just disconnect the wheel, but then when i reconnect it later, games like Project Cars 2 and Assetto Corsa don't recognise it as a wheel, they think it's a Xbox Controller.

It's absolutely infuriating as I keep going round in circles trying to get each game to work. I swear I spend more time doing that than actually playing the games.

So, is there any fix for this?

any way to tell steam, "this is a racing wheel, I would never ever want to use it for a 3rd person action melee game!"

cheers

Yes, you have to go into big picture mode settings and uncheck the box for "generic gamepad configuration". If you have that checked then it tries to recognize ANY controller for every game.

thanks for the reply. however, all the different controller configs have been unchecked. :(
I've been having this issue too. Specifically in PC2. If I try to bring up the steam menu, there's a weird noise like a macro is being pressed, and I cant click anything. Driving me insane!

Also have none of the gamepad/controller options checked.

in project cars 2 I found that pressing the 'reset to defaults' in the controllers part of the menu will usually sort it out.

I was having problems and it was because of steam . . .
this ( https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsMR/comments/a967l4/logitech_g29_ffb_issue_with_steamvrbig_picture/ ) solved my problems partially (steering wheel was not returning to position after I start big picture or any game on steam, also lose weight . . . now wheel is returning and have some weight but it is under 50% the weight it had before).
I am still trying to figure how to solve the weight response, if I find the solution I will try to bring it here and edit this post.

Uninstall GHUB, delete logitech folders at folders and at regedit, download older version of GHUB, restart computer, go offline and install GHUB (disable auto updates at GHUB, get back online and configure your wheel at GHUB (if needed) and ingame, done.
I found the perfect solution to stop the logitech wheels registering as inputs within none steering wheel games: Inline USB Power/Data switch![amzn.to]

A switch that the logi wheels should have probably had to start with.

Using this on two wheels, simply keep the wheel powered off, and then switch on 'Before' launching a game that uses wheel.

Connect G29 only you play racing games.
PC's USB and controller management is very poor as compared from console.
So it's better to disconnect unused controller.

This is NOT a Steam problem guys. I have this on my Windows 10 and it started with one of the creator updates. I haven't used my wheel for a year now so I don't know which update it is but my PXN V9 is now detected as an XBOX 360 controller and I can't map anything to the gas pedals nor the clicky things on the back.

On ATS this means only steering is detected but can't map the gas or break.

That's a different problem entirely...
This topic was about wheels being detected as inputs in 'None wheel' games...

Fire up Phasmophobia for example, and the item selection menu will just scroll to the bottom continuously...because of the wheel/pedal axes.

I managed to stop the problem by going into G Hub and then creating a profile for the game where I don't want my wheel to input. If it doesn't apear in the manage profiles section that you can see under the drop down marked Desktop default in the top right, you can manually add the game by selecting the games application (eg. game.exe) from your steam directory, which you can find by right clicking the game in your steam libary and then going to "manage > local files".

You can simply copy this over to the Add games menu in Ghub.

Once you have added the game you can move to the end of the game list and select it from the end of the list to create a new blank profile, which should stop the wheel from inputting when the game is open.

You will need to load this blank profile each time you want to play, leave Ghub open just in case it switches back to the destop default

If this isn't clear i will re write it properly because i have only just found this myself and it worked on resident evil 4 (2005).

That's a good workaround, appreciate the input regards an old problem. I still use USB power switches on my wheels (Three around the house now) but it's another option for people.
Share my solution:
  • Open "Device Manager" (Win+X > M).
  • Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
  • Disable* & enable USB ports one by one to test which one is connecting your steering wheel.
(e.g. My steering wheel is connected to USB Composite Device Port_#0004.Hub_#0004)

*Please be aware of the possibility of deactivating your mouse, keyboard, or receiver.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
