A game in an external hard drive deleted itself
I installed a game on an external hard drive, and every time I launched Steam without the hard drived plugged in, I had to click on "install" and then choose the Steam Library where the game was.
I did it again while playing another game, and the next time I wanted to play the external game, all of the files were gone.

What the heck happened...? Are all my saves gone forever? That game takes days to install. If this happens again I'll never play it again.

Connect the drive before you log into Steam.

The saves are probably stored somewhere else depending on the game. Check pcgamingwiki.com or google for info about that.

I have already checked before where the files were. I checked them again and the game folder is empty. They literally dissapeared.

If they are gone then they are gone. Still that doesn't have to include your saves.

Check the link again how to prevent this from happening, Steam doesn't recommend external hard driver because of stuff like this.

Yeah, I saw the page. But they were deleted super fast without any warning...
My computer does not have too much space left, and the game is 42 gb, I have no other choice than to store it outside of the computer....

Do you have a laptop? If not then buy new internal drives.

You can also free up space from your computer. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17421/windows-free-up-drive-space

Sadly it is a laptop :(
And only 72 gb left.

Still, try the windows tool in that link to free up space . Just search the start menu for "disk cleanup" or something similar in your language. (if you use windows 10)

oh yes, as for all of you glancing at this thread : What stops you from putting in a larger HD in a notebook? I've done 3 in the last few days...

Nothing.

I have a 2TB in my laptop. 4x 2TB in one PC with 5x 2TB external.

So... Nothing...:steamhappy:

Don't most new models have m.2 and 2.5?
