Steam Games not Detecting Graphics Card
I have been having issues launching almost every game in my steam library, with them either crashing with no error, or giving an error along the lines of "Your graphics card does not support the things it needs to," or "Your graphics card is incompadible." This does not seem to be an issue with games outside of steam.

Specs:
Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit
Installed RAM: 32GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070

Warframe gives me this error regardless of whether or not I am using the steam launcher, or the native Warframe launcher. The only game that does not give me this error is Trove for some reason.

I have tried restarting my computer, reinstalling the games, checking integrity of local files, reinstalling steam, updating drivers, reinstalling drivers, using older versions of drivers, updating DirectX, performing a virus scan (there was nothing found), and checking for windows updates.

Try uninstalling everything with DDU: https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Read the readmes and do what it says.

Does the computer have a built in vid chip as well? It could be defaulting to the lesser of the two.

Oh yeah, what is the monitor plugged in to?
If you type dxdiag into the start menu can you see the gpu?

I have PhysX set in the Nvidia control panel to use the GTX 1070. I am not sure if there is another setting that I need to change

It shows the chip type to be the GTX 1070 in the display tab of dxdiag.

Yep, turns out it was Duet Display that was messing with all of my games. Check your system tray for any apps that could be causing an incompatibility.

Since this is the thread that appears first when googling for the answer I'll add what I know, old thread or not. For the sake of others who may be looking.
Not only were my games not detecting my graphics card but I was also experiencing loss of monitor screen (crashing to black, basically). Turns out it was a cable between the GPU and the power supply that was bottlenecking. Once replaced, that was resolved. But why the games not reading the GPU?
Short answer: Old games, new graphics card. I just replaced my old GPU 2 months ago (in mid 2022 for posterity). I found that some of my games were listed in the Nvidia control panel, and many weren't. Skyrim for example. Fallout 4, for another. Neither would detect my graphics card. Well, as it turns out, the simple truth is that these are older games, and the GPU is new. My newer games like The Outer Worlds for example, ARE listed in the Nvidia control panel and the DO detect the card.
If this is the case for anyone else then the simplest fix is, when you load up any older games for the first time and it says "card not detected", just go into the game's settings and manually set the graphics to whichever mode you think your rig can handle. In my case I go with "ultra high."

So for me, mystery solved. Older games are, as it happens, sometimes unable to detect new hardware. Who knew?
