How to Enable Steam Overlay on Games Ran as Administrator?
I'm trying to run my steam overlay as administrator, so I can have it in games that require me to run them as administrator. Specifically, I'm trying to run Fallout 3 in compatability mode, as administrator, and have the steam overlay. Any help would be appreciated.

For the record, I have no clue what I have to do to get the overlay up, but I figured that was a start.

Not sure what part was supposed to help me. Not trying to be rude, I just don't know what part you're referring to. I already have it set up in settings, and it works great in other games, just not in games ran as administrator.

Sorry for not making myself clear enough. Does that overlay not work on all games when running as an administrator, or just doesn't work in Fallout 3?

Most or all games, and no worries.

Afaik as long as you enable steam overlay for that game via the settings (right click game on library > settings), running as administrator or not, it shouldn't matter

Fallout3, Mass effect, Mafia and some other older games sometimes require you to run steam as admin to get the steam overlay to work properly. I had to do it, but had no special problems after running as admin. I wanted it mostly to be abel to take screenshots.
Alright, it's all fixed, thanks everyone!

Personally, I fixed it by running Steam as administrator as well. Just a warning, it messes some games up, like Phasmophobia.

This was needed since Windows APIs have security features that prevent unprivileged processes from accessing privileged processes.

This could be fixed by making the steam overlay run as a privileged process. It could be done by registering it as a service, or by starting an elevated launcher when launching a game that requires privileged access. It'd require the steam overlay to run in separate process from the steam client, but that'd only help with stability.
