100% Disk Usage

A little while ago i was thinking: "hmm... why pc seems to be laggy, let me go to task manager and see what hackers ive got to deal with" *after opening task manager* "HOLY♥♥♥♥♥♥! WTF!! WHY IS MY DISK USAGE 100%!!!!!" *rock music plays*

now my point is, why is my disk usage 100% all the time?? i was terrified with this level of lag in my games before i knew that. i even asked uncle Google but he was too stupid. So does anyone know any fixes on this? i'd really appreciate if someone's solution works

i now know wats causing my disk to go up to 100%, its gogle chrome. i tried disabling extensions like adblock, trade.tf bot and stuff like that, and i cleared my browsing history, though i didnt remove login details for sites. now when i browse the web, like watching youtube, look at graphic cards and tech stuff prices skyrocketing, my disk goes right up to 100%, right in front of my bloody eyes. so, should i just reinstall chrome or what?

What task is causing the issue? Task Manager can show you that.
Anyhow, i fail to see what this has to do with Steam.

Your HDD may simply slowly dying.

Check Windows Update. I've had some issues with that tying up resources to absurd levels and my performance issues went away once it was done.

nowe, my hard drive is just like, 10 months old, i replaced out the old ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one, but still getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥ performance from this new hdd.

now pls, dont tell me to buy a new HIGH PERFORMANCE 999999999999Gbps SSD BOOSTED WITH RAID AND INTEL OPTANE, i dont have the money to buy those, those would be like, around 40K pounds total w/tax

Well maybe provide more info next time, how am I suppose to know you not running 10y old HDD if you don't tell.

Go with identifying the program causing this ( usually one with a constant internet connection ). Mine does the same thing for about 10 to 15 seconds when I launch Spotify, then goes to normal.

QuantumSoul, let me apologize for the somewhat curt (rude?) responses. It's like talking to console gamers at times on Steam. which is a shame.

My Steam install just did this as well. It appeared to be something during the startup of Steam Client Bootstrapper. Cloud Sync complained when I tried to end Steam, but it could have been trying to sync while the SSD was locked by another Steam process.

It only seemed to hit my boot drive, 1 TB SSD, and usage remained over 230MB/s on just that app alone over 10 minutes. 2 TB HHD and 4 TB HDD never seemed to get the same treatment, although most of my 500 installed Steam games are on those. HD Sentinel reports no errors on any drives (100% performance 100% health).

After that extended usage though, all is back to normal for me. How long has yours been going?

Disable superfetch in windows, and disabling indexing is good too, if you dont search things often. It will just take a little longer.

My wife and I have Identical computers and hers is actually two months newer... It is having the same 100% disk usage on steam downloads. We both store our Steam games on drive D: I have disabled Superfetch and Disk Indexing (on both machines). I've tried to compare BIOS settings and they both seem to be set up the same way. Both c: and d: drives are card-based SSDs. I'm considering getting a regular IDE based SSD and Installing it on her system to see if that helps, but was hoping for a setup solution. Has anyone resolved this issue on their system?

Update: We tried storing it back on c: and it's still running the disk at 100%. It took 3 hours and 10 minures to get the last Bloons TD6 update. :-(

Check in taskmanager what uses 100% drive.

Card ssd? What is that?
IDE based ssd? Shouldnt that be sata3?

I have a problem where after installing and deleting so many games I seem to be losing total disk space, probably from whatever secondary files or other stuff the games are downloading while they install. I have like 100 gigs available on a 500 gig hard drive and I don't know how to get the other 400 gigs back.

And yes I know this is a grandpa problem and there's probably an easy fix. Ha ha old man can't PC, yes yes.

Check how big the games are you have installed

Right now I only have a few strategy games and other minor titles installed, nothing triple A. Certainly not 500G. I've installed and deleted Call of Duty before too so it might not even be a Steam thing since CoD isn't on this website for some reason.
