out of Steam with Rocket League
I need help, and bad.. I probably was the only humanoid left that didn't use a computer, at least up until a few days ago when i decided to buckle my seat belt and hop in this spaceship headed to the future. So far it's been 3 days I've had steam and the only game i am trying to play is Rocket League. And of course the least computer savvy person on Earth ends up hitting a speed bump at 2 MPH that somehow manages to total the car. For whatever reason when i try to launch Rocket League I get a pop up from steam saying "preparing to launch" while the Rocket League game on the left says "running".. then the pop up disappears, i begin to daydream of the crowd yelling my name as i score some amazing aerial, and the Rocket League game on the left changes from "running" to "syncing" and then, nothing.. am I missing something here? It's day 3 now of of watching Youtube, searching through google links, and trying to find time after work when my kids let me get on to troubleshoot (if it's called that).. and all to no avail.. can someone please euthanize me with some Yoda knowledge??

Have you tried (re)installing the Microsoft C++ Packages? [support.rocketleague.com]
Zekiran 2019 年 10 月 21 日 下午 7:14
Please go up to the top of your Steam library window and click the HELP > SYSTEM INFORMATION. Copy and paste the ENTIRE list here.

That will show us your basic computer build, including what video card is on it, whether the driver for it is up to date, and overall whether it's even CAPABLE of playing the game.

If the game starts, abruptly finishes, and shuts down, that's usually indicative that it won't work at all.

Not necessarily, it can be as simple as a not so awesome gpu driver. It's a reason I usually stick a while to the same Nvidia driver, they have a habit of breaking things that simply work.

Switchable graphics can be a culprit as well.

But first let's see what spaceship OP has, indeed.

Well the system does appear to exceed the system requirements. So that's good. May just need to update drivers.
Zekiran 2019 年 10 月 22 日 下午 3:18
Or roll them back - I hope this won't get too confusing. :(

One other thing is, make sure that if you have a firewall or virus scanner, make sure that Steam and its folders aren't being scanned. that can interfere tremendously with games starting, if it believes a game executable is trying to ... well, do what it's supposed to lol. Many virus scanners and firewalls put out false positives for Steam games or the client itself, and we can assure you 100% Steam is not a virus and the games it sells are not either.

Just finished "repairing" it and restarting and trying again with no change followed by "reinstalling" it and then restarting the computer and then trying to launch Rocket League again to find no difference.. Thank you for the new idea though :) any chance you have any more wizardry up your sleeves?

lol we are far past this being confusing but I am doing am best to follow along. Hopefully this will be a guide for any technologically illiterate gamers that wander down the wrong path with me.

I see the AVG and feel I've done a good job reducing if not removing it's firewalls but the game still won't launch. Any tricks to find other potential anti-virus apps I would need to pay attention to?

Do you have any that come with Windows? I don't use them so I am afraid I can't really give a list off the top of my head.

Thank goodness for google so I can save you some explanation but also find how to do some of this. I was able to find the drivers and attempt to update the SSD but it just responded saying the driver is up to date.. Any chance i have Rocket League in the wrong file and is trying to get played with my disk drive?

Well.. I was able to add Rocket League and Steam as an exception to my anti virus but yet I am still dealing with the same problem.. I try to launch and I get a steam pop up followed but complete disappointment lol On the bright side i am learning to navigate the computer a little better and learn a thing or two..

Have you completely rebooted and restarted Steam?

Are you running on Wifi or is your internet connected directly into the computer you're trying to run it on? Since Rocket League IS a multiplayer game it will require that connection to be pretty good and wireless tends to be garbage for multiplayer...

He can't even launch the game. lol
I played Rocket League on WiFi for 1000+ hours & rarely ever did I have a problem that was directly related to my connection.

Here's a few things to try:
  • Add RL as an exception to your Windows Firewall & Anti-Virus.
  • Run the .exe as an administrator. You can find the .exe in (\steamapps\common\rocketleague\Binaries\Win32) You can find your install location by right clicking RL in your Steam library, then going to manage & then browse local files.
  • Delete the Rocket League cache. (C:\Users\XXX\Documents\My games\Rocket League\TAGame\Cache)
  • (Re)install DirectX 9[support.rocketleague.com]
  • Delete the d3d9.dll from the Binaries/Win 32 folder.[support.rocketleague.com]
  • Try launching Rocket League, then open up Window Event Viewer & checking to see if there are any errors related to Rocket League. I believe you'll find them under Windows Logs>Applications. If there are, post them here. They may help.

I hope you get it sorted. It's a very fun & addictive game. Haha

Ok.. a few questions here..

My anti-virus programs.. I was able to add Rocket League and Steam as exceptions on my AVG.. But I also have pop up blockers called Ghostery and ABP that i wasn't able to find an exceptions option. Do I need to worry about those?

I selected to run everything as administrator but whenever I restart my computer I arrive to a pop up from steam that says "you are running in compatibility mode". I proceed to follow it's directions to arrive at my previously selected option of administrator mode. I can't apply changes to this page since it was previously selected but still every time I restart the computer I get that same pop up.

I reinstalled Direct x 9.0.. I don't known if that was supposed to be a big download but it seemed like when I reinstalled that there was no recognition at all. No load time and no completion pop up. It just asked if I wanted to reinstall and I clicked yes and the rest is history.

The d3d9.dll file seems to not exist. I'm pretty confident this step is just if it does exist then I need to delete it but it wasn't when the Rocket League support guide led me to.

I tried finding the cache to clear it but this all is so confusing to me and I really don't even know where to type in (C:\Users\XXX\Documents\My games\Rocket League\TAGame\Cache). I tried it in 3 different locations and it keeps popping up that it doesn't match anything. I keep encountering the situation where I am following a guide and my set up is a little different where I don't have the same options. I end up watching multiple guides just to move past one step and reach my goal but it proves impossible. I believe I haven't exhausted my options to find this cache but maybe I am entering that in the wrong place? or maybe there is a slightly different one you know of that would work for me?

As for event finder, I followed what you said but it seems to only show my web searches and no Rocket League launches. I tried exiting out of everything and launching Rocket League from multiple different locations (my shortcut at home, through steam on the left, through steam by the "play" option, through my computer downloads tab) just to get a more visible option on the event viewer but it still didn't pop up in the category I was looking at. Maybe I need to look elsewhere on the event viewer. I found a guide through google but I need to head off to work so I'll do my best to learn the event viewer when I get home.

This all is so exhausting for me especially since I am learning all this as I'm going and all I've been wanting is to come home from work and play Rocket League.. Thanks for the assistance so far.
