out of Steam with Rocket League
I need help, and bad.. I probably was the only humanoid left that didn't use a computer, at least up until a few days ago when i decided to buckle my seat belt and hop in this spaceship headed to the future. So far it's been 3 days I've had steam and the only game i am trying to play is Rocket League. And of course the least computer savvy person on Earth ends up hitting a speed bump at 2 MPH that somehow manages to total the car. For whatever reason when i try to launch Rocket League I get a pop up from steam saying "preparing to launch" while the Rocket League game on the left says "running".. then the pop up disappears, i begin to daydream of the crowd yelling my name as i score some amazing aerial, and the Rocket League game on the left changes from "running" to "syncing" and then, nothing.. am I missing something here? It's day 3 now of of watching Youtube, searching through google links, and trying to find time after work when my kids let me get on to troubleshoot (if it's called that).. and all to no avail.. can someone please euthanize me with some Yoda knowledge??

My anti-virus programs.. I was able to add Rocket League and Steam as exceptions on my AVG.. But I also have pop up blockers called Ghostery and ABP that i wasn't able to find an exceptions option. Do I need to worry about those?

No, those should be fine.

I selected to run everything as administrator but whenever I restart my computer I arrive to a pop up from steam that says "you are running in compatibility mode". I proceed to follow it's directions to arrive at my previously selected option of administrator mode. I can't apply changes to this page since it was previously selected but still every time I restart the computer I get that same pop up.

You should only set the Rocket League .exe to run as administrator. Did you also set Steam to run in comparability mode? If you did, here's how to disable it.

The d3d9.dll file seems to not exist. I'm pretty confident this step is just if it does exist then I need to delete it but it wasn't when the Rocket League support guide led me to.

I just checked my Rocket League installation folder & I also don't have that file, so that should be okay. Maybe that support article is out of date. Who knows.

I tried finding the cache to clear it but this all is so confusing to me and I really don't even know where to type in . I tried it in 3 different locations and it keeps popping up that it doesn't match anything. I keep encountering the situation where I am following a guide and my set up is a little different where I don't have the same options. I end up watching multiple guides just to move past one step and reach my goal but it proves impossible. I believe I haven't exhausted my options to find this cache but maybe I am entering that in the wrong place? or maybe there is a slightly different one you know of that would work for me?

"(C:\Users\XXX\Documents\My games\Rocket League\TAGame\Cache)" is the location where you can find the file. XXX is just a placement for your Windows user name.
To find this location you want to open up Windows Explorer. To do that, click the start button in the bottom left of the desktop. In that menu you should see "computer" or "documents". Click one. From there it should be relatively easy to find the location above.

As for event finder, I followed what you said but it seems to only show my web searches and no Rocket League launches. I tried exiting out of everything and launching Rocket League from multiple different locations (my shortcut at home, through steam on the left, through steam by the "play" option, through my computer downloads tab) just to get a more visible option on the event viewer but it still didn't pop up in the category I was looking at. Maybe I need to look elsewhere on the event viewer. I found a guide through google but I need to head off to work so I'll do my best to learn the event viewer when I get home.

I don't believe Event Viewer should be showing you web searches. Here's a quick guide[www.howtogeek.com] on how to open Windows Event Viewer.

This all is so exhausting for me especially since I am learning all this as I'm going and all I've been wanting is to come home from work and play Rocket League.. Thanks for the assistance so far.

Oh, the joys of PC gaming! Don't worry, It should get easier the more you do it. Haha

Ok, so I been a bad monkey.. I actually got Rocket League to work a couple days ago. Meant to sign back on here and update but then the workshops and the cars and the training and toxicity.. i got lost on my way here haha It turned out that it was the drive that needed to be updated. I checked the only drive that I could find and it said it was fine but when i found it along with multiple other updates from a different location I was aloud to update and then Rocket League was able to launch. Thank you everyone for your help :)
Good to hear you got it sorted, man. Have fun & I hope to see you on the field some day! Haha

Fantastic!!

A driver should always be manually installed, rather than relying on windows/your os to find its update. Thing is with windows doing it, is that the manufacturers have to pay to have them 'certified' for that service - and that's stupidly expensive. So they aren't always the newest or the most correct updates available through the operating system's 'hey this is out of date let's check' system.

Very glad you got it sorted! I hope that the game isn't too toxic (though that's kind of to be expected with it being pvp and all, but...).

No, I'm just very happy when a frustrated customer manages to get their product working ;) I'm one of those odd birds who truly enjoyed retail (managed a comic store for many years) so when someone's happy, I'm happy :)

I sit at around Platinum 3/Diamond 1. I stopped playing ranked a very long time ago & just stuck to chilling out & having a laugh in casual. Ranked is a cesspit that I like to avoid. Heh

I've been having the same issues, can you remember what driver you updated?
I've got the same problems with the game crashing, I've checked everything here too but I'm still lost with what the solution may be, is anyone able to help please? :(

Hey sorry for the late reply, I'm not really on steam much. Hopefully you have it resolved by now but if not then I really just went to the start option at the bottom left, then I clicked control panel, click windows update, and then it showed I needed 93 updates. This is a 2nd hand brand new computer if that makes any sense. It had a red X showing a few of them were important updates so I went ahead and tried it. It did about 90 of them before 3 very long loads for the last 3 which one said it was for the hard drive. I had to then restart my computer to finish installing them and after doing so for whatever reason it didnt install so I restarted again and it fully finished that time. I then tried rocket league and it worked fine :)

atm I need 47 updates but none are crucial and my rocket league works still.

Hopefully that helps :) let me know how it all is progressing and I'll try to work through it with you.
